Karina Suero was born in Spain and earned her medical degree at the Universidad Autónoma in Madrid. After moving to the United States in 1995, she embraced her passion for helping others and found her calling in the world of therapy. Karina began her journey at the Philadelphia Child and Family Training Center, where she honed her skills as a systemic family therapist. Her work is focused on deepening people’s attunement to themselves and others, taking care of oneself, and strengthening their relationships. She had a particular expertise in understanding and working with trauma and its impact on individuals, couples and families through difficult transitions and stages of life.

Karina works with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, attachment difficulties, children defiant and aggressive behaviors, school absenteeism, family conflict, and relationships struggles.

Karina is certified in Eco-Systemic Family Therapy (ESFT) and in Non-Violent Resistance (NVR), a therapeutic approach that envourages parental presence and supports families who have experienced trauma, including those with children who exhibit aggressive behaviors. Karina has received intensive training in Hypnosis, which she applies to her therapy with people who struggle with depression, anxiety, and sleep difficulties.

Karina has had advanced training in couples therapy through The Couples Institute. In the last years, she has been working extensively with couples who are in distressed relationships and cannot find a way out of the complicated dynamics in which they are entangled.

As an approved supervisor through the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT), Karina offers supervision and consultation for other therapists.

What makes Karina’s work unique is the depth and richness of her background and her sensitivity to communication impasses. Her training as a physician, systemic therapist, and her personal experiences integrating European and American cultures all inform her warm, compassionate approach. She also provides therapy in both Spanish and English, creating a safe and welcoming space for clients from diverse backgrounds.

At the core of Karina’s work is her belief in the healing power of relationships. She focuses on building self-awareness, understanding each person’s unique way of processing their particular struggles, and fostering acceptance, respect, and trust in relationships. Her warm and insightful approach helps each person find healing connections and growth in their lives.

Karina is in private practice at Building Bridges in Media, PA, where she works with individuals, families, couples, and groups.
